Yazoo - known in North America as Yaz - are still acclaimed as one of the UK’s greatest pop duos. During their short time together, Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet made two classic albums and released four memorable hit singles. Yazoo's debut album, 1982’s Upstairs At Eric’s, propelled the duo to commercial and critical success, peaking at number two in the UK album charts. Their follow-up, You And Me Both, was released subsequent to a successful UK/USA tour before they disbanded later in 1983. Following their breakup, Moyet went on to find further success as a solo artist, whilst Clarke continued his prolific music career with Erasure. Following the ‘In Your Room’ collection, released in 2008, the pair embarked on a reunion tour with recordings from the tour later released as ‘Reconnected: Live’ in 2010. In 2018, Yazoo released ‘Four Pieces’, a comprehensive boxset comprised of their two studio albums fully remastered as well as a selection of remixes & BBC Sessions.

They tried way too hard with this song. My feelings are complicated! This is a way more creative use of that high pitch synth organ sound than a song like Final Countdown, but the vocal jazz/blues lyrical cadence really clashes with the uptempo darkness of the synth. It's kind of painful to hear the lyrics repeated at the end. These two must have respected each other quite a lot. This is hard to take after listening to Situation so many times.

Man, it brings me back to the best era of music of the 80s. I was in high school heard it first on the fm radio in Manila, Philippines 🇵🇭 and then, sooner, on MTVs, and on famous tv lunch show each day by DJ named "Long Tall Howard" on music video in channel 2. Which I always tune in after "eat bulaga." Growing up in high school that this song becomes the soundtrack of everyday high school life, crushes ❤& infatuations, & parties. The only single hit by Allison that made our younger teen lives so memorable. Thank you Allison for this beautiful song 🎵 classic and irreplaceable. Allison Moyet had such a beautiful and powerful voice that were all gonna love it up to now in 2024.
